Somewhere in the Netherlands right now, someone is holding a small green pill with Donald Trump's face stamped into it, deciding whether to swallow it. That sentence should not exist, and yet here we are. From the AP:
A Dutch drug addiction and mental health institute warned users on Friday about potentially lethal ecstasy pills shaped to look like the head of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The respected Trimbos Institute said that several of the pills have been handed in recently at a network of centers that test drugs for users before they take them.
“Absolutely do not use these pills,” the institute warned.
The pills aren't just a novelty. According to the institute's alert, they're packed with PMMA, a chemical cousin of MDMA that works slower and hits harder, which means the people taking these things think the first pill failed and pop a second, unaware they're stacking a drug that cooks the body from the inside.
It released a photo of the pills that have a depiction of Trump’s head on one side and on the other side “NL” and “Trump” stamped into the surface either side of a vertical line. One of the pills has a green face and another is yellow.
Yellow. That tracks.
“We do not know of any victims where PMMA was found in their blood,” she told The Associated Press.
Well, that's a relief! But it's cold comfort in a country where it is illegal to produce, sell, or use ecstasy in the Netherlands, yet officials, in a 2024 report, estimated nearly 550,000 people used the drug that year.
