As Democrats gear up for a possible retake of the US Senate, Elizabeth Warren is laying out plans for her potential future chairmanship of the Senate Banking Committee.

A top priority for Warren? [Quadrupling a tax on stock buybacks](https://www.democrats.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/after-gop-tax-giveaway-fuels-1-trillion-stock-buyback-bonanza-schumer-wyden-and-warren-unveil-stock-buyback-accountability-act-to-quadruple-buyback-tax-and-finally-close-executive-stock-loophole?ref=thecrimsonhub.com)\-- but only after years and years of Warren herself benefiting from them.

Warren's latest financial disclosure form shows that she and her husband own between $500,001 and $1,000,000 in Vanguard's 500 Index Fund (Admiral Shares), and [held](https://efdsearch.senate.gov/search/view/annual/5ba78cce-ea42-4909-93e4-d6c2585ffb26/?ref=thecrimsonhub.com) that investment at the end of calendar year 2025.

She also [held](https://efdsearch.senate.gov/search/view/annual/fd6288d2-f24d-4a46-ae29-96de9f53978e/?ref=thecrimsonhub.com) that investment in calendar year 2024.

Note that the fund is substantially invested in all of Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet over the entire period.

You'll be shocked to learn that during that period, all of Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet undertook stock buybacks, like the ones Warren wants to disincentivize through a hefty tax.

[Stock buybacks inherently benefit shareholders by boosting the value of their investment](https://corpgov.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/11/stock-buybacks-show-me-the-money/?ref=thecrimsonhub.com)... shareholders like the fund Warren and her husband are invested in, which increases in value when the underlying stocks it holds increase in value.

Here's a breakdown of recent stock buyback history by Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet, courtesy of Gemini.

- [**Nvidia**](https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-announces-a-150-billion-share-repurchase-authorization-increase?ref=thecrimsonhub.com) **(NVDA):** Announced a historic **$150 billion** share buyback authorization increase on **September 28, 2026**, bringing its total remaining buyback program capacity to **$235 billion** through fiscal year 2028 (ending January 2028).
- **Apple (AAPL):** Authorized a **$100 billion** share repurchase program on **April 30, 2026** (alongside a quarterly dividend raise to $0.27 per share), following a **$100 billion** authorization in 2025 and a record **$110 billion** in May 2024\.
- **Microsoft (MSFT):** Approved a **$60 billion** share buyback program on **September 16, 2024**, with ongoing open-market executions distributed across quarterly filings (such as $4.63 billion in Q1 2026).
- [**Alphabet**](https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/alphabet-paying-dividend-while-selling-073201488.html?ref=thecrimsonhub.com) **(GOOGL):** Approved a major multi-billion buyback authorization on **April 24, 2025**, with $69.5 billion remaining (though repurchases paused or slowed through early 2026 as capital directed toward AI infrastructure).

So, to recap, Warren is seeking to dissuade companies from engaging in stock buybacks now that she and her husband have reaped the literal rewards– but before *you* can, if you are someone who plows money you save into funds that achieve solid growth for average investors (and not so average investors, like Warren and her husband!) by virtue of investing in high-performing companies [that engage in buybacks to bolster the value of their shares](https://corpgov.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/11/stock-buybacks-show-me-the-money/?ref=thecrimsonhub.com).

In other words: Warren wants to stop *you* from increasing your wealth after she and her husband have already socked away millions.

Neat trick if you can pull it off.

Would you expect anything different from a lefty Boomer?
